Taking a Mission-Minded Detour
Dr. Clarence Haitsma has been a chiropractor since 1976. After practicing in his hometown of Red Deer for 29 years, he sold his practice in October 2009. He and his wife went on church mission trips-first to Santiago, Chile, for 18 months and then inner-city New York for 18 months. Dr. Haitsma is guided by Jesus Christ and The Ten Commandments, particularly, “Love God and love your neighbor.”
The couple finished their mission travels in 2014, and Dr. Haitsma started practicing again. “I struggled for a bit and got my wings this past year. Then I decided to do more, grow again and become a player in the Lethbridge community,” he said.

If you’ve been to other places for health care but haven’t had your needs addressed, you may have felt discouraged or frustrated. “People need to understand that there is hope. There’s a possibility that they can get their life back,” Dr. Haitsma added tearfully.
